YouTube Music Rolls Out 'Consistent Volume' Feature on Android and iOS

YouTube Music is introducing a long-awaited feature aimed at improving the overall listening experience: “Consistent volume.” Rolling out gradually on both Android and iOS, this new setting will normalize audio levels across tracks, eliminating sudden shifts in loudness that can disrupt the flow of your favorite playlists.

What is “Consistent Volume”?

The new Consistent volume option automatically adjusts playback levels to ensure all songs play at a similar volume. Much like the “Stable volume” feature added to the main YouTube app in October 2023, it’s designed to minimize jarring differences in audio, especially helpful when switching between songs with different production levels.

YouTube Music users have long requested such a feature, especially those who frequently use the app for background listening or party playlists where drastic shifts in audio can be particularly noticeable.

Where to Find It

The feature is not enabled through the player interface like in the main YouTube app. Instead, users can access it through the app’s settings:

• Android: Go to Settings > Playback

• iOS: Navigate to Settings > Playback & restrictions

Once enabled, the app will automatically manage volume levels across all your tracks, offering a smoother, more balanced listening experience.

Gradual Rollout Underway

As of now, Consistent volume has started appearing for some users running version 8.15 on iPhones. The feature is not yet available to all Android users, though some have reported receiving it. Notably, this option has not yet surfaced on the YouTube Music web app.

The rollout appears to be phased, and users are encouraged to keep their apps updated to receive the new functionality as it becomes more widely available.
