RAIPUR — Chhattisgarh is experiencing an intense surge in temperatures this week, with several districts witnessing blistering heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert in 11 districts, cautioning residents against exposure to hot and dry winds expected to persist over the next two days.

Districts under alert include Durg, Bilaspur, Raigarh, Balodabazar, Bemetara, Sakti, Kabirdham, Mungeli, Korba, Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, and Sarangarh-Bilaigarh. Afternoon to evening hours are expected to be particularly harsh, with potential health risks due to prolonged heat exposure.

Temperature Records Soar Across Key Cities

On Thursday, Durg emerged as the hottest district in Chhattisgarh, registering a maximum temperature of 44.2°C. Other cities followed close behind, with Bilaspur hitting 43.7°C, and Raipur reaching 43.2°C.

In Raipur, daytime temperatures led to noticeably thinner crowds on the streets during midday hours. The night temperature in Raipur stood at 29.6°C, indicating high residual heat into the evening.

In the hilly region of Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, temperatures were also above normal, with a maximum of 42.2°C and minimum of 23.8°C, approximately 4°C above the seasonal average.

Heatwave Precautions and Weather Outlook

Meteorologists have advised residents, especially children, the elderly, and those with health conditions, to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and wear light, breathable clothing.

According to the IMD, there is no significant change expected in temperature over the next three days, meaning the heatwave may persist into the weekend. With such conditions prevailing across central India, authorities have ramped up awareness campaigns to inform the public about heat-related risks and safety measures.
