Fatima Sana Shaikh , who is best known for her portrayal of wrestler Geeta Phogat in Dangal , recently surprised fans by revealing that her first film with Aamir Khan wasn’t the 2016 sports drama but actually Ishq , released in 1997. While Dangal cemented her place in the industry, few know that she had already shared screen space with Aamir as a child artist in the romantic comedy.

Fatima reveals her cameo in Aamir Khan’s 1997 film Ishq

During a recent appearance on Bharti Singh and Harssh Limbachiyaa’s podcast, Fatima shared an interesting anecdote from her early career. She reminisced about a particular scene from Ishq where Aamir’s character dramatically runs toward Kajol , repeatedly shouting, “Mara, mara, mara.” What most people missed was that Kajol was holding a small child in her arms—Fatima herself.

“Bohot pehle wo Ishq film thi. Usme ek scene hai jahan pe Aamir jaata hai aise ‘mara, mara, mara’ karta hai aur saamne Kajol uske haath mein ek bacchi hoti hai, toh voh bacchi main hun. Haan voh main hoon,” Fatima revealed, leaving Bharti visibly surprised. The comedian admitted that she had no idea about Fatima’s cameo in the film and promised to rewatch it just to catch the moment.

From child artist to Dangal star: Fatima’s journey in Bollywood

Fatima’s journey in Bollywood began long before Dangal made her a household name. She had previously worked in films like Chachi 420, Bade Dilwala, and One 2 Ka 4. However, her breakout moment came with Dangal, where she starred alongside Aamir Khan in a much more prominent role. The film was a massive box office success, becoming one of India’s highest-grossing movies and earning global recognition.

Despite starting her career as a child artist, Fatima faced her share of struggles in the industry. She had to work hard to establish herself as a leading actress. Following Dangal, she featured in Thugs of Hindostan alongside Aamir Khan again, as well as in critically acclaimed films like Ludo and Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari.

Currently, the actress has a promising lineup of films. She will be seen in Anurag Basu’s Metro…In Dino , Vijay Varma and Naseeruddin Shah’s Ul Jalool Ishq, and Aap Jaisa Koi alongside R. Madhavan.
