NEW DELHI: Tensions escalated on Tuesday as the All India Trinamool Congress (AITMC) alleged that BJP-backed goons attacked its Tripura office, coming just hours after the Bharatiya Janata Party accused TMC of targeting its MPs and MLAs in West Bengal.
TMC shared a video of the incident in which a group of people could be seen vandalising the TMC office. The TOI could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.
"The violent attack on @AITC4Tripura's office by BJP-backed goons is not an isolated act of aggression, it is an open assault on democracy . When those in power unleash violence to silence their opponents, they expose not strength, but fear and moral bankruptcy," TMC said in a post on X.
"The BJP talks about 'saving democracy' while burning its very foundations, state after state. They may destroy offices, tear posters, and intimidate workers — but they cannot destroy the spirit of resistance that lives in every Trinamool worker and every citizen who believes in justice. We will not be silenced. We will not back down. The people of Tripura and India are watching," it added.
The party is sending a delegation to Agartala on October 8.
Three BJP leaders attacked by TMC workers, claims party
BJP claimed that its MLA Manoj Kumar Oraon was allegedly attacked on Tuesday by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers in Alipurduar while distributing flood relief materials, a day after two senior BJP leaders were assaulted by a mob in neighbouring Jalpaiguri district.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack saying, "The manner in which our Party colleagues, including a sitting MP and MLA, were attacked in West Bengal for serving the people affected by floods and landslides is outright appalling. It highlights the insensitivity of the TMC as well as the absolutely pathetic law and order situation in the state."
"I wish the West Bengal Government and TMC were more focussed on helping people rather than indulging in violence in such a challenging situation. I call upon BJP Karyakartas to continue working among the people and assist the ongoing rescue operations," he added.
Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee met BJP MP Khagen Murmu and said, "I have received all inputs. He has high blood sugar. It needs to be controlled. I also wished him well and a speedy recovery."
