NEW DELHI: The autopsy of tennis player Radhika Yadav , who was shot dead by her father in Gurugram on Thursday, revealed that four bullets were extracted from her body.
“The postmortem of the deceased tennis player is completed. Four bullets were taken out from Radhika Yadav's body," Dr Deepak Mathur, part of the team that conducted the autopsy, told ANI.
Radhika's father, Deepak Yadav , later confessed to the crime and was arrested on Thursday. Gurugram police said the accused was upset with his daughter for running a tennis academy and had repeatedly asked her to shut it down. "Radhika used to run a tennis academy in Gurugram, and her father was not happy with it. On many occasions, he had told her to shut it, but she did not agree. Angered, he shot her thrice," said police spokesperson Sandeep Singh.
According to police, Deepak believed there was no need for Radhika to work since he was financially stable through rental income, ANI reported. Tensions had reportedly escalated further after she featured in a music video, though officials maintained that all possible angles were being investigated.
Radhika’s uncle, Kuldeep Yadav, who lived on the ground floor, said he rushed upstairs after hearing a loud noise and found her lying in a pool of blood. "I saw my niece Radhika lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen, and the revolver was found in the drawing room," he said in the FIR. He and his son rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead.
The accused was presented in court on Friday and remanded to one day’s police custody. Officers said they are yet to recover the ammunition from his licensed revolver and will search land he owns in Kasam village near Rewari.
Radhika Yadav had previously achieved a top AITA women’s singles ranking of 35 and played in international qualifying events earlier this year.
