Los Angeles Lakers star Austin Reaves signed a four-year contract that is estimated to be worth $56 million. The basketball star's net worth currently stands at $4 million after being one of the most prominent athletes in the sport. Back in 2024, in an interview with MarketWatch, Reaves revealed the financial advice that Will Ferrell had shared with him.

What advice did Will Ferrell give Lakers' star Austin Reaves?

While conversing about having a starstruck moment after walking into a room, Austin Reaves recalled an encounter with the Hollywood legend Will Ferrell at Clayton Kershaw's ping-pong charity event. He told MarketWatch, "The one that was really cool to me was I was at [Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher] Clayton Kershaw’s ping-pong charity event two years ago, and Will Ferrell was there. He started walking towards me, and my friend begged me to ask Will for a picture. And even for me, I was like, “Oh shit, that’s Will Ferrell.” So he walked towards us, and as I was about to introduce myself he said, “Oh Austin, I love your game.” He caught me so off guard."

Reaves further went on to reveal the financial advice he had received from Ferrell. He told MarketWatch, "Long story short, I took a picture with him and his kid, and we talked for like five minutes. He told me to be smart with my money and save as much as you can. I’ll always remember that." MarketWatch then went on to ask Austin if Will Ferrell was the center of attention in a room full of people. To this, he replied, He’s the same person you see on TV. He’s just hilarious."

While speaking on the best financial advice, Reaves added, “It’s the advice that came from Will Ferrell: Be smart with money. You see so many stories about people five years after they retired going bankrupt. If he said it, it’s got to be true.”

During the interview, Reaves also went on to share that he was not a big spender. This can be attributed to the fact that he grew up in a middle-class household. He further shared, “My dreams were only basketball — I never wanted to buy a house or anything, it was just about basketball. The money came, [and] I just want to create financial stability for me and my family, nothing bigger than that.”
