The Arizona Diamondbacks ’ center fielder, Ketel Marte, was on the verge of becoming the National League MVP, but an ankle sprain took away that opportunity from him. Even after that, the player is still considered as one of the most valuable assets of the Diamondbacks.

Due to this, the Arizona Diamondbacks pulled Ketel Marte into the team by designing a 5-year contract. How does this new contract affect the player’s net worth? Let’s break the details.
Ketel Marte’s 5-year contract with Arizona DiamondbacksKetel Marte signed a 5-year contract with Arizona Diamondbacks on March 29, 2022. The new contract amounts to a total of $76 Million, with a signing bonus of $3 Million.

As of 2025, Ketel Marte will get approximately $19 Million after deduction of taxes. Since Marte does not do any endorsements, there’s no additional income to his net worth. Besides, Marte also has a $13 Million club option for 2028.

Ketel Marte on seeking comfort over money and awardsEven though Ketel Marte got a deal on the lower end, he is still one of the best players in MLB.

Everybody knows that if I don’t get hurt, Ohtani was going to be in trouble,” joked Marte when asked about his chances of becoming the MVP of the year.

Ketel Marte performed really well in the last season, with an average of .292. However, when asked about why he accepted a base contract without negotiating much, Marte replied,

It is what it is. I’m not focused on money right now. I’ve got my agents. But I would take it — if they wanted to give me more money, I would take it, for sure.

Marte, at the age of 31, is looking for consistency and stability in his life, over money. He also revealed his conversation with Geraldo Perdomo, the Diamondbacks shortstop, regarding the contract,

“It’s very important to Perdomo, too. I think you play more relaxed. We don’t think about anything. We just think that we already have our contracts, our families are secure, they’re good.”

Marte being underpaid is seen by everyone, and even Perdomo stated that had he (Marte) not suffered from injuries or went free agent two to three years back, there’s a high chance of Marte getting at least a $200 Million contract.

“Everybody knows. He had a lot of injuries in his background and I think he just wanted security for his family,” said Perdomo on why he thinks Marte accepted the deal.

However, there’s a high chance of the contract being re-designed if Marte performs brilliantly in the 2025 season.
