GTA 6 trailer 2 might release in April instead of May — Here's why

Send Push
As anticipation for GTA 6 hits a fever pitch, most fans are hoping the next big update will come in May. But from strategic marketing trends and Take-Two Interactive 's overall release schedule, there's increasingly good reason to suspect that trailer 2 will come out in April rather. That earlier window would fit with in-house priorities without running the risk of promotional conflicts with other big-name releases.

Take-Two's investor conference call and Mafia's marketing effort could impact timing

Take-Two Interactive has its next investor conference call in May, an important time when firms would usually announce progress on big titles to make their shareholders more confident. Rockstar Games has previously coordinated announcements or trailers with these calls the past few years. There's a catch this time, though—Take-Two's another prominent franchise, Mafia: The Old Country, is on its own marketing cycle.

Mafia: The Old Country is said to be starting a pre-order campaign on May 8, with the full launch coming in summer 2025. If GTA 6's second trailer is released around the same time, it might eclipse the Mafia launch, creating in-house competition between two big-name titles under one publisher.

To prevent this, Rockstar can launch GTA 6 trailer 2 in late April, allowing it the space to own the headlines before the Mafia campaign begins.

Rockstar's marketing strategy lends itself to an April reveal

Rockstar is renowned for its carefully managed and well-timed marketing rollouts. After the blockbuster announcement of GTA 6's initial trailer in December 2023, the studio has been quiet, presumably setting the stage for a multi-phase campaign in advance of the game's anticipated fall 2025 launch.

By releasing a second trailer this month, Rockstar may revitalize public interest without cannibalizing some of May's calls without impinging on future projects. It also provides investors with some confidence boost prior to May's call, without cannibalizing attention away from Mafia: The Old Country.

Every indication is that April will be GTA 6's next big update's smart window. Take-Two's internal calendar to Rockstar's tried-and-true marketing strategy, launching trailer 2 now let's GTA and Mafia take center stage. For those wanting more footage of Vice City, the wait may not be so long after all.
