Coimbatore: A deaf and mute minor girl from Assam was raped by three minor boys at three different places near Thondamuthur in the district on March 31. The Perur all-woman police arrested the trio involved in the crime on Thursday night.

According to an investigation officer, the girl, aged 16 years, was living with her single mother at a rental house in Thondamuthur area.

"Around 11am on March 31, she went out after telling her mother, a construction worker, that she was going to a nearby shop and would return soon. However, the girl returned home only at night. She told her mother through sign language that she was forcibly taken to an undisclosed place and raped by an unidentified person," the officer said.

On Wednesday, the girl's mother lodged a complaint with the Perur all-woman police, who registered a case and initiated an inquiry with the help of a sign language interpreter. Police also collected CCTV footage from the area that showed a minor boy taking the girl to an isolated place and later dropping her near a shop.

"The footage also showed two other minor boys picking her up from that shop and dropping her at the same place at night. We collected the trio's details and arrested them on Thursday night. Residents of Narasipuram and Pooluvapatti village areas, the trio raped her separately at three different places on March 31," the officer said.

The three were later produced before the juvenile justice board and lodged in the observation home for juveniles at Lakshmi Mills Junction. Further investigation is on.
