three-word social media flex perfectly displays the recent winner's feelings about his latest achievement. The golf legend wrote his name in the history books on Sunday when he battled his demons, as well as the demanding Augusta National course, to finally get his hands on a green jacket.
Unsurprisingly, given McIlroy's recent struggles in major championships, it wasn't a simple victory, both on Sunday and throughout the weekend as a whole. Instead, McIlroy's momentum swung back and forth, with the now five-time major winner becoming the first player to win the Masters having recorded four double bogeys across the four rounds of golf.
Regardless, McIlroy got the better of unlikely challenger Justin Rose in the playoff to secure perhaps the most coveted prize in golf: the green jacket. Eagle-eyed golf fans have been quick to pick up on McIlroy's decision to change his bio on Instagram, with him making reference to his Masters triumph. It now reads: "Grand Slam winner." An instant reminder to anybody who visits his page that he's one of only six players to have ever won all four major championship titles.
Having secured his first at the US Open in 2011, McIlroy went on to claim two PGA Championship wins in two years, firstly in 2012 and then again in 2014. That same year McIlroy would win on British soil at the Open at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, leaving just the Masters left to complete the career slam.
While the career slam is one thing, McIlroy now has the chance to do something that hasn't been done by any golfer in almost 100 years - win all four majors in a single year. The closest anyone came was Tiger Woods between 2000 and 2001, with the American ace having held the four titles at the same time, with what came to be known as the 'Tiger Slam'. But not even the mighty Woods won the quadruple in a single calendar year.
With three titles to his name already this year, big things are expected of McIlroy in the remainder of 2025, with the Olympian even . He said during an interview with Sky Sports: "You can't win all four majors in a year if you haven't won the first one. There's a lot of golf left to play this year... I've got off to a great start, obviously, and I can't wait to keep it going."
