Amazon's Prime Video has pulled the plug on its epic fantasy series The Wheel of Time, based on the books by Robert Jordan, after just three seasons. The cancellation, announced on 23rd May, comes mere weeks after the season three finale in April.
Despite its promising start as Prime Video's most-watched premiere in 2021, the show's viewership has waned, with financial constraints reportedly driving the decision.
The news has sparked outrage among fans, who felt the third season marked a significant improvement.
Hundreds have taken to social media to express their discontent. One X user raged: "Wdym Prime canceled The Wheel of Time after the best season they ever had?
"Rosamund Pike literally spent weeks in a desert for nothing?"
Empire's James Dyer fumed: "No, I'm sorry @primevideouk, this WILL NOT STAND!
"Season 3 was f***ing fantastic and if you can afford to pour a billion dollars into [The Lord of the Rings] The Rings Of Power, you can throw some cash at this glorious show!"
Another user concurred, saying: "I thought it really found its feet with Season 3 as well. It felt more focused and the younger actors were starting to give Rosamund Pike a run for her money.
"Completely agree with you on The Rings of Power as well. It's ok. But Wheel of Time was much better."

The sentiment was echoed on Reddit, with one user posting: "lmao of course they waited for the show to actually be well received by fans and critics to cancel it", reports .
A different fan expressed their shock: "I'm genuinely surprised by this... Seems like they had a lot of positive momentum after Season 3 and people were happy with the direction the show was going."
Meanwhile, someone lamented: "I am so sad. I was really loving the last season."
Yet some audience members confessed they saw it coming, given that The Wheel of Time has been deemed an inferior adaptation from the start, failing to ignite excitement akin to other fantasy giants such as Game of Thrones.
One Redditor judged the scenario sharply: "They wanted the next Game of Thrones.
"It just wasn't the same kind of cultural phenomenon, no matter how good the last season was in comparison. This was bound to happen, they put a lot of money into it."
Nevertheless, supporters are rallying, calling on platforms like Netflix to pick up the mantle and rescue The Wheel of Time series. Will this be the definitive end of The Wheel of Time narrative?
The Wheel of Time is available to stream on Prime Video.
