mastermind Ronald D. Moore has divulged details about one of the show's most explosive moments, where our beloved leads Jamie (portrayed by ) and Claire Fraser (played by ) had a fiery confrontation.
During the second season, tensions were high as Claire pushed Jamie into swearing he wouldn't face off in a duel with Captain 'Black Jack' Randall (acted by Tobias Menzies), for his death could spell non-existence for her first husband, Frank Randall (also depicted by Menzies), reports the .
The pivotal moment featured a fierce argument brewing between Jamie and Claire when Jamie discovers that his rival is still alive.
Reflecting on this climactic event during an Outlander official podcast session, Moore shared: "This scene is drawn from the book. We really tried to use as much of the dialogue of this fight as we possibly could.
"It's a great performance. There's just something really amazing and we really let [Balfe] and [Heughan] go at it in the scenes. When you unleash them, they really dig down deep."
Recalling comparable intensity from the show's first season, he added: "I remember the fight that they had in 109 in the first season and then this fight."
With enthusiasm, he explained further: "When they're really emotional and they're really heartfelt and they really passionately believe in their positions, these two actors can really take you places."
Moore also highlighted: "They're so mature, they understand their relationship and they've work together for a couple of years."

Chiming in on the conversation, Outlander's costume designer Terry Dresbach, who appeared on the same podcast, contributed: "And they know each other so well by now."
She continued: "And you can see they have really become these characters and they inhabit them in such a deep and believable way. It's quite amazing."
This pivotal scene would later have severe repercussions for the Frasers, culminating in an illicit duel between Jamie and Black Jack.
The duel ultimately led to tragic consequences for Claire, who suffered a miscarriage upon arriving at the scene.
As a result, Claire's life hung in the balance, and she lost her unborn daughter, Faith.
Furthermore, she was forced to secure a pardon for her husband's illicit actions, which came at a higher cost than anticipated.
It was later revealed that Jamie had sought revenge against the ruthless Redcoat for his brutal assault on Fergus Fraser, leading to a breach of his promise to Claire.
