Milk is an essential that serves several purposes. However, if not taken care of, dairy products turn sour easily, causing a lot of wastage and disappointment.
However, to keep milk fresh for up to three weeks, helping you avoid souring or curdling. Once opened, milk typically stays fresh for four to seven days beyond the printed date when stored in the fridge. Unopened whole milk usually lasts 5-7 days past that date, while reduced-fat and skim varieties often remain good for more than seven days. Non-fat and lactose-free milk generally has the longest shelf life, remaining for 7-10 days beyond the printed date when properly refrigerated.

Once opened, milk can last for a week or two without curdling, but a simple hack can extend its life even further.
Experts from said: "Adding a pinch of salt to the carton and shaking it to distribute the salt evenly can help.
"Salt minerals slow the souring of milk by drawing out water molecules, which lowers water activity and, in turn, inhibits bacterial growth."
Apart from this, there are many other strategies that one can use to extend the shelf life of the milk.
Experts suggest picking up the milk with the longest shelf life. It's nice to check the dates on the cartons and select the one with the furthest expiration date.

The experts added: "Dairy products should ideally be stored at the back of the fridge, as the front and door are exposed to warmer air each time the door is opened.
"It's best not to let it sit on the counter for too long."
