No matter how spotless your home is, one spot always seems to attract dust like a magnet: the skirting boards. Getting on your hands and knees can be very tedious and straining when attempting to clean this area with a cloth. Fortunately, there is a simple trick to clean up the dust quickly without needing much muscle work or expensive equipment.
Circling on Instagram, the Lime Cleaning Crew posted a video showing how and why homeowners should use toilet paper on their vacuums for narrow and awkward spots around their homes. Captioning their video, they said, "Use this trick for car seat rails, under fridge coils, or tight skirting board edges."
How to do itNot everyone has a narrow-shaped vacuum nozzle to tackle hard-to-reach areas around your home, like skirting boards, window tracks, and tight corners. Instead of finding one to purchase, you can easily create a custom vacuum nozzle using an empty toilet paper roll.
According to the cleaning expert, start by taking the empty cardboard tube and gently flattening one end to make it narrower, or, for even more precision, cutting the end into a tapered tip.
Next, take the opposite end of the tube and carefully fit it over the nozzle or hose of your vacuum cleaner. If it doesn't hold firmly on its own, you can use tape to secure it in place and ensure it stays attached during use.
Once your makeshift nozzle is ready, you can bend, shape, or even slightly crimp the cardboard to help it reach into tight crevices or awkward corners that a standard vacuum attachment might miss.

"If you've got sliding doors, whether they lead to your garden or are a choice you made when installing wardrobes, you'll be the first to know how mucky the tracks can get, despite your many cleaning efforts.
"The same can be said for around your windowsills," said a cleaning guru at Ideal Homes. "No more do you have to mess around with missing vacuum attachments, as a toilet roll is all you need to make your own DIY crevice tool.
"Simply grab your empty roll, tape it onto your vacuum and pinch and manoeuvre it as needed." You can also discover how to clean your skirting boards with dryer sheets by clicking here.
WarningsJosh Warren, AO's floorcare expert, spoke to Ideal Homes and warned: "By adding an obstruction such as an empty toilet roll, the airflow of the vacuum is significantly restricted.
"Not to mention that adding this could potentially damage the vacuum or cause it to overheat."
He added, "If you've accidentally misplaced any of your attachments, there are universal ones available online that are cheap to replace to save you from causing any harm to your vacuum cleaner."
