There was a time when getting a birth certificate was a tough job. Not only offline, but even online, even the best of people used to sweat while doing this work. While one had to make rounds of government offices to get an offline birth certificate, online too the certificate could not be made due to the government website being down or due to some error. However, now the situation has changed a lot. Actually, now all the states and municipalities will have to upload the data of birth and death on the CRS portal itself. This will make it difficult to make fake certificates and the records will be easily verified. Let us quickly understand in detail what is the new way of getting a birth certificate?
How to get a birth certificate in 2025
Now in 2025, to get a birth certificate, you will not have to go to the corporation or state website of your area. The work of getting a birth certificate can now be done easily on the CRS portal. For this you have to:
- First of all, you have to visit the CSR portal at crsorgi.gov.in. Please note that this is the official Civil Registration System Portal of the Government of India.
- Here you have to sign up by tapping on the General Public option. By doing this you will create your account on this government portal.
- After creating an account and logging in, you will have to click on "Apply for Birth Certificate".
- After this, you will have to fill a form. In this, details like the name of the child (if given), date and time of birth, place of birth (hospital or home), name, address and contact of the parents will have to be given in the form.
- After filling the form, you will have to upload the required documents. In these documents, you will have to upload the birth report received from the hospital which is also called discharge summary, Aadhaar or other identity card of the parents and residence certificate such as ration card, electricity bill.
- After this you have to submit your form and in return you will get a reference number.
- With the help of this number, you will be able to check the status of your application on the CRS portal itself.
- If everything goes well, the birth certificate will be issued in the next 28 days. You will be able to download it as a PDF from the CRS portal.
Some things to note
While getting a birth certificate, keep in mind that the application for it must be made within 21 days of birth. If this is not done, you may have to pay a fine while getting the certificate made. If there is a lot of delay in this, then a different process and affidavit may be required. Now since the certificate is digitally signed, it will be valid for all government work.
