Manchester United could be forced into the transfer market after goalkeeper Andre Onana suffered an injury blow. Onana has picked up a hamstring issue which is set to see him miss the start of the season.
The 29-year-old has had a mixed spell at Old Trafford since joining United from Inter Milan back in 2023 for a fee of around £50million, having come under fire last season after making several major errors.
Despite speculation about a potential exit this summer, Onana did look set to start the new season as United's No. 1. However, Ruben Amorim's plans have now been dealt a major blow now that Onana is injured.
According to the Telegraph, United fear the goalkeeper will be out of action for six to eight weeks and that means he may not be fit in time for their opening game against Arsenal on August 17. He is set to travel on the club's pre-season tour of the United States, but will not play.
The report states that Amorim is now 'weighing up whether to buy another goalkeeper', with Altay Bayindir, Radek Vitek and Tom Heaton the other options at the club. The Red Devils have been linked with Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez, but it is claimed that a deal is 'not being worked on at the moment'.

United's pre-season friendlies kick off on July 19 when they face rivals Leeds United in Stockholm, Sweden. They will then travel to America for matches against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton before returning home for a friendly against Fiorentina at Old Trafford on August 9.
United are hoping to bounce back from their worst ever Premier League campaign, having finished 15th last season. They have focused on strengthening their attack in the transfer market so far, forking out £62.5m to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
A deal for Bryan Mbeumo is also being worked on, although Brentford's director of football Phil Giles has hinted that the forward could remain in West London. "He had a fantastic season," Giles told BBC Sport said last month.

"We expected big interest in him, we have had big interest in him. He has his ideas about where he wants to take his career, of course he does – he is well within his rights to do that. We are in constant dialogue with him and representatives about that.
"As it stands at the minute we don't have an agreement in place for him to leave. It is not impossible he is still a Brentford player next season if we agree he is going to stay. It has to be the right deal for Brentford, any club will tell you that.
"If it's not right deal why would we do it? He is certainly one of our best players, if not our best player, and we need our best players. There's no harm in keeping your best players."
