Thiruvananthapuram: Controversial Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko was Saturday morning arrested by the police for drug-related offences and later granted bail in the evening.
The 41-year-old actor had earlier in the morning surrendered before the Ernakulam North Police and came two days after he made a dramatic escape by leaping out of the window on the third floor of a hotel in Kochi.

At first he claimed that he fled out of fear as he mistook a team of District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF) as thugs and that he had not used drugs on the night of the raid on Wednesday. But when the police produced his call records and financial transactions, he admitted that he was a victim of drug use. The police are now trying to find out the key suppliers of drugs.
According to sources, Shine has been booked under sections 27 (consumption of any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance) and 29 (abetment and criminal conspiracy) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and for destruction of evidence. He has been asked to come for further questioning on Monday.
According to media reports, the police discovered crucial evidence that linked Shine with narcotic dealers.
Earlier, actor Vincy Aloshious had filed a complaint with the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce and the Malayalam film industry's internal complaint committee against Shine, accusing him of misbehaving on the set of the film 'Suthravakyam' while allegedly under the influence of drugs or alcohol. However, Shine denied these accusations.
Earlier this month, Shine was also named by an arrested woman drug peddler, who claimed to have supplied drugs to him and actor Sreenath Bhasi. However, the case did not stand against him for lack of proper evidence.
