In a dramatic turn of events, a woman who was allegedly assaulted with a stone pestle by her husband approached the Thane Sessions Court, seeking the release of her husband, who was arrested on charges of attempted murder. In her affidavit filed before the court, the woman stated that since the accused is in jail, she and their children are the ones suffering the most, as he is the sole breadwinner of the family.
Considering the circumstances presented before the court, the judge granted bail to the accused, Nilesh Khade Singh , on a personal and surety bond of Rs 50,000.
The victim, Meena Singh, stated in her reply, “The victim is the wife of the accused and is facing extreme hardship along with her two minor children, who are currently pursuing their education. She also deposed that the accused is the sole earning member of their family, and due to his arrest, she and the children are facing severe financial and emotional distress, making it difficult to sustain their livelihood and provide for the children’s education and basic needs. Hence, it appears that due to the accused being in jail, the ultimate sufferers are the victim and her children.”
She further stated, “There is no possibility of the trial concluding in the near future. There is also a possibility of the victim and children becoming destitute if the accused remains in jail.”
In his bail application, the accused claimed that he had been falsely implicated in the offence, asserting that no prima facie case had been made out against him. He described the allegations as false and frivolous, and stated that there was no evidence linking him to the crime. He has been in judicial custody since March 31, 2024, and argued that his continued detention was unnecessary since the investigation is over and the charge sheet has been filed. He also stated that he is a permanent resident of the given address and is not likely to abscond.
However, the bail plea was opposed by the investigating officer, who stated that the accused had assaulted the victim with a stone pestle, and if released, there was a high chance he could tamper with the evidence.
According to the case details, the accused allegedly assaulted his wife Meena Singh with a stone pestle in a fit of rage and then attempted to harm himself with a knife on March 15, 2024, at their residence in Nayanagar, Mira Road (E), Thane.
