Mumbai: A family vacation turned tragic for 44-year-old Atul Mone, a railway engineer from Thane's Dombivali, who was among two tourists from Maharashtra killed in a terror attack in the Pahalgam region of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. The other deceased has been identified as Dilip Desale, a resident of Navi Mumbai's Panvel. The attack resulted in the loss of lives of 26 individuals, including tourists and an intelligence officer.
Mone, a resident of Shriram Achal building in Thakurwadi, Dombivali (West), had travelled to Kashmir with his wife and daughter. According to police reports, the family was visiting the popular tourist destination when terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on a group of tourists. Mone sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene. His wife and daughter escaped without harm.

Mone Worked At Central Railway's Parel Workshop
Mone was a section engineer at the Central Railway workshop in Parel. According to an ABP Majha report, he was accompanied on the trip by two family friends, Hemant Joshi and Sanjay Lele, both residents of Dombivli, who were travelling with their families. They are reported to be safe.
Navi Mumbai Killed In Shooting
Dilip Desale, the second victim, was also on holiday in Pahalgam when he was caught in the crossfire. Desale was a resident of Khanda Colony in Navi Mumbai's Panvel. Another tourist, Subodh Patil, also from Panvel, sustained injuries in the attack. He has been airlifted to a hospital in Srinagar, where he is currently undergoing treatment. His wife, Manik Patil, is accompanying him.
The couple was part of a 39-member tourist group that had travelled to Jammu & Kashmir through Nisarg Travels, Panvel. All other members of the group are reported to be safe.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration confirmed that at least four others, including two tourists from Panvel, were injured in the attack but are now in stable condition. Officials said over 50 rounds were fired by the assailants, who allegedly asked tourists for their names and religious identity before opening fire, an act claimed by the terrorist group TRF (The Resistance Front).

Union Minister Confirms 2 Tourists From Pune Injured
Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol confirmed that families from Pune were also caught in the chaos, with two tourists, Santosh Jagdale and Kaustubh Ganbote, injured. Both are currently undergoing treatment, while their accompanying family members are safe.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that he is in constant contact with Jammu & Kashmir officials and that arrangements are being made to bring the mortal remains of the deceased back to Maharashtra. In the aftermath of the shooting, security forces swiftly reached the site and began a large-scale search operation. The area remains under high alert.
