Mumbai: A Kurla-based businessman lost his life after being hit by a speeding scooter in Ghatkopar. The incident occurred around 8 pm on Tuesday at LBS Road, Gurunanak Nagar, Ghatkopar West. The scooter rider was also injured in the accident.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as 68-year-old Hastimal Jain, a resident of Nehru Nagar in Kurla East. Jain owned a gas stove sales and repair shop in Azad Nagar, Ghatkopar West. On Tuesday night, while returning home after closing his shop, he was hit by a speeding scooter near Gurunanak Nagar.
Both Jain and the scooter rider were seriously injured in the incident. An auto-rickshaw driver rushed them to Rajawadi Hospital, where they were admitted for treatment. However, around 11 PM, Jain succumbed to his injuries.
The scooter rider, identified as Shahzad Khan, is reportedly in stable condition. He resides in Bail Bazaar, Kurla, and works as a delivery boy for an online grocery supply company. Ghatkopar Police have registered a case against Shahzad Khan under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing death due to negligent driving, along with relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. Police confirmed that Khan has been formally arrested.
