Bhopal(Madhya Pradesh): Habibganj police on Friday arrested the caretaker who allegedly assaulted and threatened the retired DGP of Madhya Pradesh HM Joshi (99) at his residence in Arera Colony area on Wednesday.
An FIR was registered against caretaker Sheikh Rafiq and Shakti Khare, the operator of the agency through which Rafiq was hired by the retired DGP, the police said.
Sanjeev Choukse, TI at Habibganj police station said the accused caretaker Rafiq is a resident of Shyam Nagar and was appointed around one-and-half months back.
During questioning, he confessed to have assaulted the retired official. However, no past criminal record of Rafiq was found yet. Investigations revealed that agency operator Shakti Khare did not carry out verification of Rafiq before his appointment at the retired DGP’s residence following which he has also been named in the FIR.
In his complaint, Joshi said that he has hired Rafiq through an agency and used to pay him Rs 20k per month. On Wednesday, Joshi was alone at home when Rafiq caught his neck and demanded cash from him.
Rafiq left the retired official when his maid Geeta suddenly entered the house. Later it came to the fore that Rafiq had also stolen some cash and a metal idol of Lord Ganesh.
