Health experts are alert about increasing liver diseases. If liver-related problems are not taken care of in time, then it can also have fatal side effects. World Liver Day is celebrated every year on 19 April to alert people about increasing liver diseases and raising awareness about its prevention.
Doctors say that the problem of fatty liver is increasing rapidly among the youth. In the case of fatty liver (hepatic steatosis), excess fat accumulates in the liver cells. If proper treatment is not received, this disease takes the form of fibrosis, cirrhosis, and even liver cancer.
In severe cases, the liver stops working normally, after which a liver transplant is the only option left. There is no exact treatment for this disease, but by making some changes in lifestyle and eating habits, its damage can be prevented or cured.
Why is this liver problem increasing?
The risk of fatty liver increases significantly due to excessive consumption of alcohol, obesity, high cholesterol, and type-2 diabetes. Apart from this, fatty liver can also occur due to eating food rich in oil and fat, being overweight, having insulin resistance, high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood, and rapid weight loss.

In the case of fatty liver, one may feel mild pain or discomfort in the upper right part of the stomach. Apart from this, feeling heaviness in the stomach quick fatigue and weakness, loss of appetite, yellowing of skin and eyes, weight loss, jaundice, and swelling in the stomach, feet, and toes can be seen. To avoid fatty liver, consume a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein, and healthy fats. Avoid consumption of sweet beverages, sweets, and processed foods with high trans fats. Fiber-rich foods, such as legumes, and whole grains help improve liver functioning. Also include avocado, nuts, and seeds in the diet. Drink an adequate amount of water. Drink as much fresh juice as possible, such as coconut water or lemonade.

Rapid weight loss can increase the problem of fatty liver. Therefore, aim to lose 1-2 pounds per week slowly and permanently through diet and exercise. Even a 5-10 percent reduction in body weight can significantly improve liver health. Therefore, adopt gradual weight loss methods. Do regular exercise, such as brisk walking, cycling, or swimming.
Do not consume alcohol. Use medicines as directed and avoid medicines that can harm the liver.
If you have diabetes, keep your blood sugar levels under control.
To keep cholesterol levels under control, follow diet, exercise and if necessary, use medicines only after consulting a doctor.
Periodic blood tests can help monitor liver enzyme levels and its health.

Risk increasing at a young age
Especially in urban areas. Its prevalence among young people is often attributed to a combination of poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, and genetic factors. When the liver is burdened with excess fat, its ability to filter toxins from the blood and process nutrients is reduced. Fatty liver puts the patient at a higher risk of heart attack and stroke.
