When Akshay Kumar's son Aarav left home at 15. He still uses second hand clothes, cooks his own meals, does his own laundry

Although Aarav Bhatia comes from one of Bollywood’s most celebrated families, with father Akshay Kumar known as the “Khiladi” of cinema and grandfather Rajesh Khanna being a legendary icon, he has no plans of entering the film world. In a conversation with cricketer Shikhar Dhawan, Akshay revealed that his son has shown no inclination toward acting and instead nurtures an interest in the world of fashion.

Early Independence and Education Abroad

Akshay recalled how Aarav decided to leave home at the tender age of fifteen to pursue studies overseas. The actor admitted he initially did not want his son to move so early but respected the choice since he himself had left home at fourteen to chase his dreams. Today, Aarav is pursuing higher education at a London university, a decision entirely driven by his own determination and desire to live independently.

A Life of Simplicity and Self-Sufficiency

Akshay proudly described Aarav as a grounded and responsible young man who values practicality over extravagance. Far from the stereotypical image of a star kid, Aarav prefers to handle his daily chores on his own—whether it is cooking, cleaning, or doing his laundry. He deliberately avoids unnecessary luxury, opting for affordable clothing rather than indulging in designer labels. In fact, he often shops at thrift stores, firmly believing that mindful choices help reduce waste.

“He does his own laundry, he is a good cook, does the utensils and doesn’t even want to buy expensive clothes. In fact, he goes to a second-hand store, Thrifty, to buy clothes because he doesn’t believe in wastage," the proud father revealed.

Freedom to Choose His Path

Given his lineage, it might have been expected that Aarav would continue the cinematic legacy. Yet, Akshay emphasized that neither he nor Twinkle Khanna ever pressured their son to enter films. Aarav candidly expressed that cinema did not interest him and that fashion was where his heart lay. Akshay encouraged this decision, affirming that his son should pursue his own passion without the weight of family expectations.

A Young Man Making a Statement

Earlier this year, Aarav made headlines when he attended actress Huma Qureshi’s Eid festivities. His attire—a sleek black bandhgala kurta paired with white pyjamas—reflected understated elegance and sophistication. Observers admired his poise, while many noted how his features and smile echoed those of his legendary grandfather. Adding a twist, Aarav wore a floral gajra on his wrist, a distinctive accessory that sparked conversations and highlighted his individuality.

Academic Foundations Before London

Before moving abroad, Aarav completed his schooling at Mumbai’s Ecole Mondiale World School and later studied at the United World College in Singapore. These early educational experiences shaped his global outlook and prepared him for the independence he now embraces in London.
