A groom, along with his wedding procession, in Jammu and Kashmir walked to his wedding following the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway due to landslides on Monday.

"It is my wedding day... This is the situation because of the heavy rainfall yesterday... We have to go on foot... We started travelling at 6 am. We parked our cars behind and now we will walk the rest of the way," said Mashkoor, the groom who is on his way to his wedding on foot.

The groom said that they had to walk for another 7 km and the bride would reach the venue the same way.
We still have around 7-8 km more to walk... We would bring the bride the same way, as the roads are not cleared. We request the government to clear NH 44 as soon as possible," he added.

Several parts of Jammu and Kashmir experienced torrential rains, leading to flash floods and landslides in the valley. More rains are predicted for the next 24 hours.

Further, the 250 km-long Jammu-Srinagar highway (NH44) was blocked from both ends due to mountain debris from a landslide, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded. It is the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country.

Teams from the Police, SDRF, Army, civil volunteers and other stakeholder departments were actively engaged in rescue and restoration operations across the affected areas, reported PTI.
