The big day is here! Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are all set to clash in the final of IPL 2025. Both teams are chasing their first-ever IPL trophy, which makes this match even more exciting. But there’s one thing that could spoil the fun, the weather.
There are chances of rain in Ahmedabad, just like during Qualifier 2. So, fans are wondering – what happens if the final is washed out?
Is there a reserve day for IPL 2025 final?
Yes, unlike the Eliminator and Qualifiers, the IPL final has a reserve day. If rain doesn’t allow the match to happen on May 03 (Tuesday), it will be played on May 04 (Wednesday) instead.
What if it rains on the reserve day too?
If the weather ruins the match on both days, the winner will be decided based on league stage standings. That means Punjab Kings will be crowned IPL 2025 champions because they finished higher than RCB in the points table.
IPL will get a new winner, finally!
No matter who wins, IPL 2025 will have a new champion. RCB has been to the final three times (2009, 2011, 2016) but never won. For Punjab Kings, this is their second final, the last was in 2014, where they lost to KKR.
RCB and PBKS have played 36 IPL matches against each other, and it’s perfectly balanced, 18 wins each. In this season’s Qualifier 1, RCB defeated Punjab by 8 wickets, with Philip Salt scoring 56 runs. Punjab reached the final by beating Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2, thanks to a superb 87 from skipper Shreyas Iyer.
So, rain or no rain, one thing is clear, IPL 2025 will give us a brand-new winner.
