India US trade agreement: NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam on Friday expressed confidence that some positive news could emerge by the end of November on India's proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA) with the US.
He said at CNBC-TV18's Global Leadership Summit 2025 that the National Manufacturing Mission would launch by the end of November. Subrahmanyam said, "I think things have been a little difficult with the US and efforts are being made to restart it. Trade talks are ongoing."
CEO expressed hope
Hopefully, we may receive some positive news by the end of this month. The CEO said that India is consistently attracting foreign investors. He said, "American companies are opening global capacity centers in India. This simply means that India's core attractiveness will trump everything else." His comments are significant because the US is pressuring India to stop buying crude oil from Russia.
Subramanian said, "The world is going through a turmoil. We don't know how to deal with it. The world is moving in a direction where low growth rates are the norm." He said, "India is in a unique position among these. I mean, it's the brightest spot in the global economy, and that's what makes it important."
Talks are ongoing between the two countries
India and the US have held trade talks at various levels. Both countries are sending positive signals regarding the talks. Recently, the US President praised Prime Minister Modi. It remains to be seen what outcome these talks reach.
