Tottenham first half player ratings vs Reading - Bentancur cool, Moore exciting and Devine solid

Send Push

Thomas Frank's Tottenham era has kicked off with the visit to League One side Reading and here are our first half Spurs player ratings.

The Dane made it clear ahead of the game that he would be two picking two different Spurs XIs for each half of the contest with Cristian Romero captaining one side in the first half while Son Heung-min will skipper the other in the second. Frank named a strong side sprinkled with a couple of youngsters in Mikey Moore and Alfie Devine.

Not involved on the day were Koto Takai after only getting his work permit this week and neither were Archie Gray, Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert, who were the latest to return to pre-season training this week following their exploits at the U21 European Championships last month.

Manor Solomon was out after suffering an injury while Richarlison and Dane Scarlett missed out on the squad, although both are believed to be fit and trained alongside Gray, Tel and Odobert at Hotspur Way on Saturday.

It was a goalless first half lacking in quality and chances on the whole but there some things to take away from Tottenham's first 45 minutes under Frank.

Here are our first half Spurs player ratings from the game at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Antonin Kinsky

Didn't have much to do and showed reasonable footwork other than one kick out of play midway through the first half. 5

Pedro Porro

With his new bright blond hair he got up and down the right and took one big kick from O'Mahony which earned the Reading man a yellow card. Put in some nice deliveries including a late one to Romero. 7

Cristian Romero

Kept pushing forward as much as he could. Sent a late header into the side-netting from Porro's cross. 6

Kevin Danso

Solid enough alongside the Argentine at the back, playing on the left. 6

Destiny Udogie

Bright and positive down the left-hand side without making much of an impact in the final third. 7

Rodrigo Bentancur

Always looked calm and composed on the ball and rarely troubled on the ball. 7

Pape Matar Sarr

Worked hard and perhaps should have done better with a point blank shot after the ball fell at his feet from a corner. 6

Alfie Devine

A mostly bright first half in the number 10 role, trying to thread balls through to Solanke and fighting in the midfield when he came back. 6

Brennan Johnson

Spurs kept looking for the Wales international with diagonal balls over the top but he struggled to make an impact. 5

Dominic Solanke

Some nice little touches but struggled to see much of the ball in the box. 5

Mikey Moore

A bit wasteful in the early stages, losing possession a few times but he grew into the game. He had one shot blocked and went on one lovely dribble past a couple of players before having his cross cut out. 6
