Robert Sanchez issues instant message to Chelsea teammates after red card vs Man United

Robert Sanchez has issued an apology after his red card during Chelsea'sdefeat to Manchester United in the Premier League.

The Blues suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Red Devils at Old Trafford on Saturday evening, with Trevoh Chalobah on the score sheet for Enzo Maresca's side.

However, the late header from the Chelseadefender was not enough to cancel out first-half goals from Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro from the hosts.

Sanchez was shown a red card by referee Peter Bankes in the fifth minute of the contest, with Maresca bringing in Filip Jorgensen to replace Estevao Willian and Tosin Adarabioyo replacing Pedro Neto in a double substitution.

Soon after the final whistle, Sanchez took to social media to issue an apology for his red card in Chelsea's defeat in Manchester.

"On me today guys, big sorry for that, team put a massive effort in the second half but couldn't get there," wrote Sanchez in a post on his Instagram story.

Sanchez will now serve a one-match ban after being shown a red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity.

The goalkeeper will miss the Carabao Cup tie against Lincoln City at Sincil Bank on Tuesday night, with the suspension carrying over into the League Cup as well as the Premier League.

Jorgensen will be expected to start for Chelsea when they face Lincoln in midweek, with Gaga Slonina also an option between the posts for Maresca.

Sanchez's suspension will come to end in time for the shot-stopper to be available for Chelsea's next Premier League fixture against Brighton next weekend.
